I’ve always known I’m home at GRCC, having begun my teaching career there and eventually becoming Department head. I love helping writers in EN 101 and EN 102 find their voice and their passion, encouraging them to believe they are full of experiences and ideas and plans that will fuel their writing. Teaching writing and literature is about connections: connecting with writers and connecting with one another, and it’s a privilege to do this every day at GRCC. Away from the College, I’m co-director of the Lake Michigan Writing Project, a professional development organization for teachers of writing. Here I've found another home, learning and sharing with teachers of writing all across West Michigan. This is the place that feeds my writing soul and reignites me for my classroom. At home, my husband and I are happy empty-nesters, watching our three grown daughters begin their professional lives and families, which now includes our first grandson. I’m a lover of 70’s music, reading, anything chocolate, and really great food. I’m also a fan of exercise and motorcycling and the promise of the open road – a great metaphor for life, because there are so many possibilities ahead for all of us.
