Napkinection

Welcome to Napkinection. My name is Faye Westfall. I am a wife, daughter, mother of three adult daughters, grandmother of two. I enjoy the process of creating through writing, drawing, painting, crafting, cooking and gardening. My husband and I have been married for forty-one years. For the last fourteen years, I have been a caregiver of various degrees for our parents. My father and my husband's mother died of Alzheimer's Disease. His father died of heart disease three years after his wife's death. My mom will be ninety years old this year. My sister and I share in her full time care. She had a stroke with some residual deficit on her right side five years ago. That paired with a broken shoulder and arthritis has restricted her arm movement. Sometimes, her food jumps off the fork or spoon before it gets to her mouth. She is not pleased to have food dribbling down her shirt or the indignity of wearing a bib made for adults. Napkins were tucked in at her neck, but they never stayed put. So, Napkinection was born. I make the connectors from glass and metal beads with alligator clips on the ends. The connector wraps around the neck, like a necklace and connects to a napkin. I cut and sew cotton fabric into extra long napkins and two napkins come with a travel pouch made from the same patterned fabric. The sets can be purchased from my store at www.napkinection.etsy.com. Napkinection is like wearing jewelry, which Mom enjoys. Matching napkins make it fun. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Florida. Preserving the patient's dignity is very important to me. This is a small way I can do that as a caregiver and by offering Napkinection to other caregivers.
