About Matthew Cochran Matthew Cochran is a dedicated writer, researcher, and content creator with a strong background in public health, education, and communications. A UC Berkeley graduate (2016) with a degree in Social Welfare, Matthew has spent the past decade working at the intersection of youth advocacy, health policy, media development, and community engagement. Professional Experience & Impact Matthew recently worked with the NAACP of Modesto, providing literacy tutoring for K-8 students from August to December 2024. He is now transitioning into a Paraeducator role in Special Education (Severe) with the Turlock School District, continuing his dedication to educational equity. Alongside his work in education, he remains focused on developing after-school programs, nonprofit initiatives, and community projects aimed at improving educational and health outcomes. Previously, Matthew played a vital role at the California Health Collaborative, where he led grant writing efforts, managed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, provided IT support, and spearheaded communications projects. His ability to bridge technology with public health strategy helped organizations strengthen their outreach and impact. Youth Advocacy & Media Development In 2020, Matthew joined @heal.project, where he successfully developed the program’s media and PR strategy. His work included: • Launching the “How to HEAL” Podcast (Spotify), a platform dedicated to discussing youth mental health and substance use stigma. • Leading media training workshops that taught youth the fundamentals of photography, videography, social media management, and digital storytelling. • Collaborating on advocacy efforts that influenced public policy, including the Visalia City Council’s response to smoke shop regulations, as reported by Visalia Times-Delta. Additionally, Matthew contributed to Youth Media CA, a platform focused on empowering young voices through storytelling and creative media.
