Jason A. Sutula graduated from the University of Maryland in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in fire protection engineering. In 1998, he received his Master of Science degree in fire protection engineering again from the University of Maryland. While at the University of Maryland, he conducted research exploring the low strain regime of counter-flow diffusion flames. In 2009, Dr. Sutula completed a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Graduate School of Engineering and Electronics at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. His research involved the development of a methodology for the prediction of flame extinction and suppression in three-dimensional normal, reduced, and micro-gravity environments. Dr. Sutula is a Subject Matter Expert in the fields of Fire Science, Fire Protection Engineering, and Fire and Explosion Investigation. Over the past sixteen years, he has applied his knowledge and experience to solve problems for government agencies, major corporate clients, and law firms. His educational background and unique experience has led to involvement in both small-scale and large-scale fire science research projects, international fire and explosion investigation and reconstruction analyses, fire and explosion litigation consulting, computational fluid dynamics modeling, computer fire modeling validation studies, and third party reviews of fire investigation methodologies. In addition to his work experience, Dr. Sutula is an educator within the fields of fire protection engineering and fire and explosion investigation. He currently holds an Adjunct Lecturer position at the University of Maryland, where he teaches a graduate level Advanced Fire Suppression course and a combination undergraduate and graduate level course in Structural Fire Protection. Dr. Sutula also holds an Adjunct Lecturer position at Eastern Kentucky University within the Fire, Arson, and Explosion Investigation Program, where he teaches Fire Dynamics and Fire Behavior and Combustion.
