Michael Lawrence

Michael Lawrence is a field recordist, keyboardist and composer focused on classical music and musique concrete. Based in Philadelphia, he recently contributed to the 60 Minute Cities project with Bivouac Recording of Shanghai, China–a series of field recording albums featuring more than 30 cities from around the world. As a composer, he has been published by the Organist’s Companion (Wayne Leupold Editions), the St. Michael Hymnal, and CanticaNova. He is one of several assistant grand court organists on the Wanamaker Organ at Macy’s in Center City Philly, by many accounts the largest pipe organ in the world. He is a writer not only on music but also more general cultural topics, having been published in the Broad Street Review, among other periodicals. When he isn’t engrossed in music he’s usually at the gym trying to do just a little better at pull-ups than he did the week before.
