Dr. Salvatore Palumbo, MD, FACS, FAANS, is a board-certified neurosurgeon and spine specialist on Long Island. He serves as Chief of the Department of Neurosurgery and Director of Neurotrauma at Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he will complete 25 years in 2027. He also serves as Chief of Neurosurgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bethpage. He has built his career around treating complex neurological conditions and is recognized for his expertise in his practice and across the country. Dr. Salvatore practices with a patient-first philosophy, using advanced surgical techniques alongside personalized care plans. He carefully assesses each patient’s condition to determine the most effective and least invasive treatment options. His goal is not only to relieve pain but also to restore function, mobility, and overall quality of life. He has helped thousands of patients with conditions affecting the spine, neck, brain, and peripheral nerves. His work includes intracranial procedures, complex spinal surgeries, and spinal reconstruction for both degenerative and traumatic disorders. Salvatore Palumbo, MD, has extensive experience treating intracranial tumors and other neurological conditions. His procedures range from minimally invasive microdiscectomies to multi-level spinal stabilization surgeries. He treats conditions such as back and leg pain, arm and neck pain, sciatica, herniated discs, degenerative disc diseases, spinal stenosis, compression fractures, traumatic brain injuries, spinal and brain tumors, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Dr. Salvatore has been recognized as a Top Doctor in America and on Long Island, and received the Outstanding Physicians Award during his time in Pennsylvania. Patients often share strong feedback, with some referring to him as a “hero” and others noting his attentive care and communication. He was one of the founding members of Long Island Brain and Spine and the Interventional Pain Management Group, which provides coordinated care across specialties. He is a Fellow of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the North American Spine Society and New York State and County Medical Societies. He completed his undergraduate degree at Duquesne University, earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, and completed his General Surgery Internship and Neurosurgery Residency at the University of Rochester-Strong Memorial Hospital.
