Edmonds, WA

Raised in Oregon, I served in the Peace Corps in Brazil helping subsistence farmers. Afterward I worked for the Eugene Register-Guard as a reporter. In Seattle, I worked for clean air at the American Lung Assn., for professional journalism at KUOW-FM (94.9 FM), on behalf of patients at Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington School of Medicine, and for a cleaner Puget Sound at People For Puget Sound. Now retired, my wife Heather Marks and I help our son raise his two children. They live with us. Over the years Heather and I have helped bring about and end to smoking in public places,, airplanes and workplaces; worked for social justice; and, in 2008 we helped persuade the City of Edmonds to buy land from the school district behind our place and save it for a park. It is now a popular place called Hickman Park.
