Chris DJ DAPPER DAN Brown

DJ DAPPER DAN - Chris Brown - Town Mayor's Serjant & Crier of Wimborne Minster, Dorset UK “The John Peel of Reggae” - Neil Fraser aka The Mad Professor “This man knows his reggae history, he knows how to roll like thunder” - MC Spee (Dreadzone) DJ DAPPER DAN Is possibly the only reggae DJ who is also a traditional olde worlde Town Crier. He is The Town Mayor's Serjant and Crier of the historic and beautiful town of Wimborne Minster in Dorset and has been National Champion (2007) as well as County Champion Crier four times! Chris has been spinning tunes for over 45 years, from the Sergeants Mess at USAF bases to the “Back To Africa” festival in the Gambia. He has a serious and deep-rooted love of Reggae music and all its wonderful forms. Since 2008 he has had a weekly two-hour radio show “SKANKING DELIGHTS” on FOREST FM 92.3. Chris’s particular approach has perhaps best been summarised by Neil Fraser (The Mad Professor) who described him as “The John Peel of Reggae” - he enjoys searching out new and less well know reggae artists and introducing them to a wider audience. He has carved out a unique niche at festivals by performing “THE DUB BREAKFAST” a DJ set of choice dub reggae to start the day with sublime tunes and lashings of “Dorset Fizz” (Dorset version of Bucks Fizz – you need to ask). Dapper Dan’s DJ sets are not limited by boundaries or fashion and he is just at home playing Albanian Nose Flute music to Zimbabwean Roots and all stops in-between. He also organises events in his own right and has enjoyed booking and managing stages at many small festivals over many, many years. Chris has professionally acted as compere at many festivals including his personal favourites Bestival, London International Ska Festival, Camp Bestival, Silver Hayes (Glastonbury) and Boomtown - encouraging crowd participation and introducing acts with a traditional and unique “Cry”. For the last three years he took command of the Town Centre Stage at Boomtown and in 2015 was secretly selected to do two DJ sets at Banksy’s DISMALAND art installation in Weston Super-Mare. Among his fans are The Flaming Lips, Enter Shikari, Florence & The Machine, Ethan Johns, Pronghorn and The Polyphonic Spree who he has toured with over many years. Chris hates clichés but is at his happiest when he is sharing his love of music and this enthusiasm shines through all his work. He brings his own unique, flexible and responsive approach to everything he does and everyone always ends up happy.
